It is my pleasure and honor to serve as a sixth editor-in-chief for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery (JFAS). To say the least, I have big shoes to fill. The previous editor, D. Scot
Malay, DPM, MSCE, FACFAS, was a detail-oriented, hardworking epidemiologist with vast
experience in foot and ankle surgery. He made this official journal of the American
College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) one of the world's premier foot and ankle
journals. He has been a true mentor to me for the last 18 years. In fact, my first
peer-reviewed manuscript accepted for publication was mentored by Scot when I was
a research fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
My career in the JFAS started when he appointed me as a section editor of research
several years after the first publication. Since then, he has been sharing the know-how
on journal management and the editorial process as if I was taking over his position
the next day. I am very gracious for his service, mentorship, and smooth transition.
He will be missed, but I am sure it will be no time before he comes back as an author
and investigator in this journal. I pledge to maintain the quality Dr. Malay established
over the decade of his tenure.
